에구...글 한번 정리해서 쓰려면 너무 시간이 오래 걸려서^^
간만에 삘받아서 써봅니다.
스시 좋아하는 분들 계시죠. 저도 많이 좋아하지만 유학생의 제한된 버짓으로 갈 수 있는 기회가 많지는 않아서…제가 여기 있으면서 가본 곳들 몇 군데 정리해서 올려봅니다.
Pan-asian 레스토랑이나, 한국/중국 음식이 주이고 스시도 사이드로 하는 곳들은 당근! 제외시켰습니다. 보통 그런 곳들은 그냥 먹을만 할지는 몰라도 스시 전문은 아닌만큼 질이 확실히 떨어지더군요.
아래 언급한 곳들은 다들 스시를 하는 곳들이기는 하지만 조금씩 다릅니다. 퓨전을 시도해본다던가 하는 점에서…근데 저도 일본 음식 전문가는 아니다 보니 스시 외의 메뉴에 대해서는 아는게 거의 없고 그저 생선이 얼마나 싱싱한지만을 알뿐, 먹어본 메뉴도 어느 정도 정해져 있다는 점을 감안해 주시길…^^
1) Sushi Ko
홈페이지: www.sushiko.us
dc area에 가장 최초로 생긴 스시집이랍니다. 30년 넘은 듯. 여기서 일하던 사람들이 나가서 차린 스시집만 해도 여럿 된다죠.
가격대: 평균보다 좀 비싼 편인 것 같습니다. 마끼(6pcs roll) 같은 경우는 주로 5-6불 안팎, 비싼 거 몇 가지는 12불 넘는 것도 몇 개 있었습니다(rainbow roll, dragon roll 등). 홈페이지 메뉴에 보시면 small dishes라고 되어 있는 것들을 저는 애피타이저로 먹으려고 시켰는데, 보통 10불 안팎이었구요. 매일 specials들이 따로 있구요. Sushi 모듬 같은 건 20불 안팎입니다. 두 명이면 거의 $80불은 생각하셔야 합니다. $50 미만으로 먹기는 좀 힘들 듯. 가격대를 나름 자세하게 언급하는 이유는 홈피에 메뉴는 있는데 가격은 없는 관계로…^^
추천 메뉴: small dishes에 보면 grilled baby octopus with mango sauce 있거든요. 정말 맛있습니다...(으으...또 마구 먹고 싶어진다는...^^) Fried eel도 괜찮았구요. 몇 가지 안 먹어봤지만 먹은 것들 하나같이 정말 흠잡을 데가 없더군요. 따라서 본인이 땡기는 걸로-.- 시켜도 괜찮을 것 같습니다. 그 외에 jalapeno라든가 ceviche등의 남미 재료/음식을 이용한 fusion도 있는데 전 먹어보지 않아서 모르겠습니다.
위치: 조지타운인데, 보통 많이들 가시는 Wisconsin Ave/M Street에서 몇 마일 더 올라갑니다. 대중교통으로 갈 수는 있는 듯한데, 차를 갖고 가시는게 제일 좋구요. 주변에 미터파킹은 많은 편입니다. Valet parking이 $4 정도였던 듯(다른 곳에 비해 싼편?). 전 이런건 해보지 않아서리..ㅎㅎ (그 돈으로 마끼 하나더 먹죠...쿨럭 ㅡ.ㅡ)

분위기와 서비스:
제가 가본 스시 레스토랑 중에 서비스 가장 좋았습니다. 애피타이저로 먹은 음식들 타이밍 잘 맞춰서 하나씩 하나씩 나오고 적당한 시간 간격을 두고 메인으로 시킨 스시를 가져오더군요. 써빙하는 사람들도 친절. 내부는 1,2 층으로 나뉘어져 있는데 2층은 아직 못 봤습니다. 깔끔한 편.
2) Sushi Taro

가격대: 평균 정도인 것 같습니다. 마끼는 4-6불 안팎이 대부분이구요. 홈피를 보시면 메뉴가 가격대와 함께 올라와 있습니다. 보통 두 명에 40-50불 정도면 배불리 먹었던 것 같습니다.
메뉴: 런치메뉴도 괜찮구요, 여름에는 라면도 하는데 지금은 날씨가 추워져서 discontinued. 야끼도리도 괜찮고, 돈까스나 뎀뿌라도 괜찮습니다. 점심때는 미소가 그냥 나오는데 저녁 때는 특정 메뉴를 시켜야 나왔던 듯…(제가 잘못 알고 있을 수도^^)
위치: Dupont circle에서 가깝습니다. 메트로 타고 가셔서 걸어가셔도 금방이구요.

금토에 가시면(일요일은 문 닫습니다) 사람들 많습니다. 거의 한시간 정도 기다릴 각오는 하고 가셔야 합니다. 파킹도 (가끔은) 죽음. 하지만 언젠가는 찾을 수 있죠 ㅎㅎ
여기가 underrated되어 있다고 하는 사람들도 많은 것 같은데...지금도 사람 많은 걸로 봐서는 그닥 잘 모르겠다는^^
분위기와 서비스: 다다미방도 있는데 거의 자리가 잘 안 나구요, 전형적인 스시하는 곳이라고 보시면 됩니다. 서비스는 보통. 거기 몇년째 써빙하시는 한국 아주머니 한분 계십니다^^ 일본 비즈니스맨들이 많이들 와서 식사하고 가시더군요.
3) Kotobuki

가격대: 비슷한 quality의 스시 중에서는 싼 편입니다. 두 명이면 보통 $30이면 괜찮게 먹습니다. 마끼 같은 건 $3-4불 정도가 대부분이었던 듯. 싼맛에 배터지게 먹을 수 있다는…^^
메뉴: 여기는 주로 마끼가 괜찮었던 것 같습니다. 다른 애피타이저도 먹어봤는데 특별히 인상 깊었던 건 없었구요. 하지만 제가 다 먹어본 건 아니니 드셔 보시고 맛있는 거 있으면 정보 나줘주시면 좋구요^^ 하지만 역시 가격 대비 최고. (노파심에서 하는 얘기지만…단지 싸다고 추천하는 건 절대 아닙니다)

Friendship heights에서 가깝습니다(차로 5-10분 거리).
내부가 매우 작아 테이블이 몇 개 없습니다. (도서관 스시가 아닌^^) 제대로 된 퀄리티 스시가 땡기는데 돈이 좀 부담스럽다 싶으면 갈만한 곳인 것 같습니다. 파킹은 미터 파킹하시면 되구요. 번화한 동네는 아니고 거의 주택가라 파킹하기 그렇게 어렵지 않습니다.
분위기와 서비스:
내부는 깔끔하고 서비스는 보통.
4) Sushi Sono

가격대: 역시나 마끼가 5-6불 안팎이 대부분입니다. 다른 스시 레스토랑에 비해 테리야끼라던가 애피타이저의 종류가 많은 것 같은데, 전 먹어보지 않아서 잘 모르겠습니다.
메뉴: 여기 런치메뉴가 다른 곳에 비해 좀 다양하구요. 여러가지를 먹어보지 않아서 모르겠지만, 대체로 괜찮습니다.
위치: Columbia에 있는데, Columbia mall 거의 맞은편이라고 보셔도 됩니다. 레스토랑이 호수를 바라보고 있어서 여름에는 식사하고 산책하고 가는 것도 괜찮은 듯…

5) Sushi Kaz
아..여기는 살짝 소개하기 좀 controversial한데 유명하니까 언급은 하겠습니다.
controversial이라 함은…리뷰가 좀 극과 극으로 갈리는 듯한 느낌을 받았습니다.
가본 제가 내린 결론은…가서 뭘 시킬지 알고 가야 한다-_-입니다. 함부로 시키면 낭패를 볼 수 있다는 것…

가격대: 평균보다 비쌉니다. 제대로 먹으면 거의 Sushi Ko 만큼 나옵니다.
메뉴: 여기는 다른 곳들과는 다르게 색다른 스시 메뉴가 많습니다. 특히 signature sushi라고 하는 것들을 보면…tuna with foie gras 이런것들…실험적인 메뉴를 여럿 내놓는 듯합니다. 이거랑 plum wine 어쩌고가 유명한 메뉴였던 것 같습니다. 기타 자세한 건 홈피 메뉴 참조.

다른 곳들에 비해 내부가 fancy하고 서비스는 보통보다 조금 괜찮은 편 정도.

이 중에서 Kaz가 가장 실험적이고 모던(?)한 느낌이라고 할까요... Kotobuki나 Taro는 보다 스탠더드한 느낌이구요. Sushi Ko는 그런 면에선 모던과 스탠더드의 중간쯤.
이 외에 제가 아직 못 가봤지만 괜찮다고 언급되고 있는 곳들…

| Makoto(in DC)를 제 친구가 가 봤는데요.
여기 굉장히 비싸고 럭셜한 곳 맞죠?
스시가 미국인 입에 맞게 약간 뜨뜻....(차가운 회가 아니라) 했따고 하더라구요.
맛은 있는데 아주 맛있지는 않았다는 미식가 친구의 말이었어요~ |

| 저도 스시소노를 몇번 가봤는데 괜찮았습니다. 롤도 맛있었고. 스시도 생선이 두툼한게 맛있었습니다. 주변 산책하기도 좋고 (호수가 있어서) 옆에 콜롬비아 몰도 있어서 주변 돌아다니기에도 좋습니다. |

| 얼마 전 남편과 함께 스시 타로를 가 보았는데, 꽤 괜찮았어요.
점심 시간에 갔고, 차는 주변 거리 코인 파킹에 주차 시키면 되는데, 12시 반 넘어서 가시면 파킹이 쉽진 않을 것 같았습니다.
많이 먹는 저희 부부는 점심 세트 메뉴를 시키니 좀 부족하여 예산보다는 더 썼지만 꽤 만족스러웠어요.
그리고 거기 계신 한국 아주머니 성함은 "김상" 이라고 하면 되시고요, 저희에게 많이 친절하게 해 주셔서 음식이 더 맛있었던 것 같기도 하네요. |
