    한국식 대형 찜질방 오픈

    워싱턴에서는 처음으로 한국식 찜질방이 센터빌에 문을 열었다. 스파 월드(사장 이상건, Spa World)는 25일 오후 개장식을 갖고 건강한 동포사회를 위한 종합 가족 휴양공간의 역할을 다짐했다.
    이날 개장식에는 권태면 총영사, 황원균 북버지니아한인회장 대행, 유석희 본보 사장 등 한인사회 인사와 센터빌 지역 소방서 관계자, 스파월드 임직원 등 40여명이 참석해 발전을 기원했다. 또 워싱턴 포스트등 미 주류언론에서도 취재에 나서는 등 워싱턴 지역에서 최초로 들어선 한국식 찜질방 문화에 대한 관심을 나타냈다.
    이상건 사장은 인사말을 통해 “한국의 고유 찜질방 문화를 미국에 도입하는 게 쉽지 않았다”며 그간의 어려움을 소개한 뒤 “예정보다 공사가 늦어졌지만 많은 분들의 협조와 격려 덕분에 개업할 수 있었다”고 동포사회에 고마움을 전했다.
    3년여의 공사 끝에 개장한 스파 월드는 지상 1,2층에 약 5만 스퀘어피트의 미주 최대 규모. 호텔식 남녀 사우나와 최첨단 수중 마사지 치료시설인 바데풀, 그리고 황토, 청옥, 소금석, 보석, 아이스 룸 등으로 이뤄진 다채로운 찜질 공간 등을 갖췄다.
    또 남녀 휴게실, 수면실, 스넥바와 식당, 어린이 놀이시설 등 다양한 휴식공간을 구비했으며 휘트니스 센터와 지압, 피부 및 발 마사지등 웰빙 프로그램도 마련돼 편안하게 일상에 지친 피로를 풀 수 있게 해놓았다.
    스파 월드는 26일 본격적인 영업에 들어가기에 앞서 이날 한인 노인 300명을 초청해 무료 찜질방 체험 행사를 가졌다.
    난생 처음 찜질방을 경험했다는 한순희씨는 “말로만 듣다 처음으로 찜질방에 와보니 몸이 가뿐하고 기분도 상쾌하다”며 “한국식 목욕탕이 이렇게 발전하고 잘 꾸며져 뿌듯하다”고 소감을 밝혔다.
    스파 월드는 개장 기념으로 3월30일까지의 입장 고객을 대상으로 추첨해 2명에 4천달러 상당의 패밀리 멤버쉽, 10명에 2천달러 싱글 멤버쉽, 20명에 월 멤버쉽, 50명에 1회 입장권 등 푸짐한 상품을 제공할 예정이다. 또 목욕용 가방, 개인용 체중계 등 다양한 선물도 증정한다.
    스파 월드는 연중무휴 24시간 영업하며 사우나 입장료는 25달러, 사우나와 찜질방 이용시는 35달러를 받는다. 개인 및 가족, 법인 회원제도 운영 중이다.
