DC 인근 지역에 당일치기로 다녀올 만한 여행지가 여러군데 있을 것입니다.
얼마전에 다녀온 Mount Vernon 을 말씀드릴까 합니다.

조지워싱턴 생가가 보존 되어있는 곳이구요,
가는길: 3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Highway, Mount Vernon, Virginia 22121
I-495 따라서 DC 남쪽까지 내려간 다음에 국도 따라서 조금 내려오면 됩니다.
가는 길이 그리 어렵지 않더군요,

사실 별거 없는데 일인당 13불이나 받는 것이 조금 의아하긴 한데요,
그래도 이 요금을 내고도 오는 사람들이 많고 운영이 가능한거 보니 대단하단 생각이 들었습니다.

일단 표사서 들어가면 작은 안내소가 있고, 조지워싱턴에 대한 15분짜리 다큐(?)를 보고 시작합니다.
이 곳을 나와서 작은 정원과 조지워싱턴의 생가를 중심으로 펼쳐진 잔디밭, 목초지..(?) 등등을
산책로를 따라 걸을 수 있게 되어 있습니다.
저택 뒤쪽으로 포토맥 강을 바라볼 수 있는 잔디밭이 있는데요
경치 하나는 정말 끝내줍니다. 본전 생각이 잠시 사라지는 순간.
사실 따지고 보면 집 하나 떨렁 있고 아무 것도 볼거 없지만,
가족끼리 주말에 바깥 바람을 쐬고 싶다거나 잠시 나들이 나가 사진도 찍고
아이들과 야외에 다녀오고 싶으신 분들에게는 추천할 만 합니다.
단, 산책로가 비포장 자갈길이기 때문에 유모차를 끌때 먼지도 좀 나고 힘도 좀 들더군요.

저런데 가다보면 차라리 애뉴얼 패스를 살까 고민하게 됩니다. 한번만 더 오면 본전은 뽑는데 말야 하면서. 그래서 3년전에 저기 가서는 애뉴얼 패스 사서 1년 동안 서너번 갔었더랬죠. 그 이후론 안가고 있지만.. -_-;;. 학생회장님 말마따나 경치 좋습니다. 입장료의 가치를 하는가 하는 생각이 들긴 하지만. 그래도 거기까지 가는 조지워싱턴 파크웨이의 길도 좋구 그래서 드라이브 삼아 다녀오기에는 더할나위 없을 듯 싶습니다. |
